How to Make Money as a Blogger

Questions like these: How do I make money as a blogger, or How do I make money online are questions that are thrown out there by most hoping to get a quick, easy answer.

So here is the formula…..are you ready?

  1. Grit
  2. Education
  3. Massive Action

That’s it.  It’s that simple.  But if it were that simple, than everyone would be doing it right?  When it comes to education( and I don’t mean this in the normal sense of a 4 year degree but education in your niche), there are many smart, intelligent people out there.

But if wealth was determined by smarts alone, then why aren’t all the professors and teachers from colleges and universities wealthy?

When it comes to massive action, there are a lot of doers out there, whether they are sports players, type A people, or just leaders with initiative…..but if wealth is determined by massive action alone, then why are there so many sports players and leaders and type A personalities that aren’t wealthy?

It is because most people can’t do, or should I say have, the #1 thing it takes to make money as a blogger, to make money online, to be a succesful entrepreneur…..GRIT.

Do You Have Enough Grit To Make It As An Entrepreneur?

Forbes came out with an article back on December 1, 2014 with the title above.  It is a great read and I do recommend you read it in it’s entirety when you have time.

Forbes defines Grit as:

Intensity, toughness, and a never-give-up, scrappy perseverance.

And just like I mentioned above, the smartest alone are not the wealthiest.  Those that take quick, massive action before others, are not always the wealthiest, Forbes points out the same thing:

Grit Trumps Other Factors

Dr. Angela Duckworth, Ph.D. and Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, has developed a way to measure a person’s grit. Her findings show that people who score high on the Grit Scale are usually more successful than their brilliant but less motivated counterparts. Her research also shows that students with high Grit Scale scores get better grades and have more job success after graduation than those with lower scores.

Do You Have Enough Grit To Make It As An Entrepreneur?

Our “Gritometer” Quotient

Ask yourself these questions to determine your current level entrepreneurial grit:

1. Passion Quotient: Are you intensely passionate about what you do? Do you give it all you’ve got or clock out dutifully every day at 5pm?

2. Challenge Quotient: When challenges show up in your life, do you cower or do you face them head-on without flinching?

3. Result Quotient: Do you have a results-oriented mindset? Do you consistently create results or make excuses?

4. Production Quotient: Can you handle being defined by what you produce? Have you ever created anything of substance that you will be remembered for?

5. Whining Quotient: Do you create fear, excuses, or roadblocks in the game of work?

6. Phoenix Quotient: Can you fail with dignity and grace and rise again stronger, more humble, and ready for the next play?

The Good News: Grit Isn’t Something You are Born with, it Can be Learned

Most people think you either have grit or you don’t, you were born with it, or you weren’t.  That’s because most people want to feel better about themselves when they don’t succeed at something, so they will blame their genetics.  The truth is, grit is a learned trait.

Granted it is learned mostly “on the job,” if you will versus in books.  On the streets versus in the classroom.

Why is it that when you here about success stories and you hear about what it took for that person to become successful, you end up hearing that the person had a rough upbringing, had to over come many obstacles in life, or had to grow up early because of certain responsibilities that weren’t normally given to a kid at that age.

It is in those times, that grit is learned.

Grit can also be taught from our parents or close family members or friends while growing up.  As we see them overcome obstacles in life, and keep pushing through over and over again.

If you are saying to yourself, “Well I didn’t have any of those things growing up.”  Then I recommend first, clicking the link up above and reading the full article that Forbes wrote.

Second, I recommend you start reading biographies of people you admire, that had to overcome insurmountable odds in life to get where they were.

And third, I recommend you tell a close freind or family member that you are really trying to learn, no, to have the GRIT characteristic in your life, and that if they see a time in your life when you need to have grit to push on, but you choose not to, that they would point it out, hold you accountable, and ask you, “Do you really want to have grit?  Do you really want to make money online? Do you really want to know how to make money as a blogger?

You are exactly right. The content does need to be valuable and quality, and engaging. I know I didn’t really get into the actual basics of what it takes to make money as a blogger, fo that you can go to my “Getting Started” page.

I didn’t go into detail because, it doesn’t matter how much someone knows or how well someone can write, if they don’t have Grit, they will indeed eventually give up before hitting their goals. I do however plan to write a more in depth post on How to Make Money as a Blogger, to include more details and how to’s, so stay tuned, bookmark this site or sign up for our newsletter and get each new post sent straight to your inbox so you don’t miss a thing.

Thx for commenting and best wishes,

      Jason

I am glad you liked my article JK. Having over 10 years of business has taught me that it is not the most talented or smartest, it is not the best looking or most popular, it is the ones who are able to endure and keep going, the ones that can take a fall, and get up, and keep going, the ones who have GRIT. There is a clip from the , Rocky Balboa, that says it all.

      Best wishes,

      Jason

Hi Jason, I really liked reading this article because it was so original! Usually if you go on websites that tell you how to make money they are usually just spam! They tell you to sign up and pay fees, and then you regret it after! I liked how you talked about other motivating factors besides which websites to sign up for! A lot of people think that making money online is going to be easy, but you are right, it does take some dedication and a lot of grit! Thanks for the very interesting read!

Yeah, I really hate those spam or scammy type of sites. My goal is to provide my readers and subscribers with the tools and resources need to succeed in the online world, specifically, How to Make Money as a Blogger. And part the tools and resources, is painting an honest picture of what it takes to succeed, and not to give them fluff and rah, rah.

You are right, making money online isn’t easy. In my article, 6 Common Blogging Mistakes and How to Avoid Them, I have an infograph that states more than 81% of bloggers never make more than $100/mo…..but that means it is not impossible either! 🙂

Thx again Asna for commenting and best wishes.

Jason, excellent article. Grit-Education-Massive Action, are what one needs to succeed in anything in life.
I thought about Tony Robbins when I heard the term Massive Action used. Our “Gritometer” Quotient are very good points to live by if you want to succeed in anything you do. Keep up the good work.
