How to sell guns online. This is a question I get often from many of my friends who own guns themselves, who love to shoot, hunt, and shoot some more. Why do I get this question. Well I have had the privilege of serving as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant, in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years, and in an Anti-terrorism unit in the Coast Guard, developed after 911, for 3 years.
I have shot more rounds in those 7 years then most people will in 100 lifetimes. The M16(with M203 grenade launcher), the 249 SAW, the M240 Gulf, the M4 Carbine, MP5, Beretta 9mm, and the 870 Remington shotgun(with pistol grip of course), these are the weapons I trained with. My all-time favorite M4 Carbine.
Combine those skills with my years of business experience and my online marketing consulting company, and I’m sure you can see why the question, “How can I sell guns online?” comes up.
So Here is How You Do It
Step 1 – Have a Passion for Firearms
That is the first question I will ask. Can you see yourself writing multiple times a month, preferably weeks, about all things Firearms? If so, this maybe a great place. Don’t feel it’s always about writing. Videos work great with this industry….I’m sure I can see many of my friends making some funny ones here.
Step 2 – Niche Down, Be More Specific
What is also great about this industry is that it doesn’t just have to be about the “guns” themselves, but also about the ammo, the holsters and accessories, the safes, about hunting and licenses, magazine subscriptions, and even insurance.
The more niche you are the better. You can even go further; let’s say you want to focus specifically on hunting rifles, or pistols, or specialty firearms. And to take it even further you can specialize on a certain brand, or size of rifle, i.e. gauge. Again, the more niche the better.
Step 3 – Build a Website
Doing videos about reviewing different guns, and even writing about different guns can be fun. Many say they would love to do it…..but it is here when I tend to lose some folks.
I get things like, I’m not a techy guy/gal. I’m not really internet savvy. Here’s the deal. Having a website is like owning a piece of real estate for a brick and mortar business. If you don’t have a place for visitors to “visit” it’s very hard to “sell” something.
Step 4 – Blog, Blog, Blog
Great you have a website. Now start reviewing products. Preferably ones that you have personal experience with. It doesn’t always have to be, but these tend to work best because the writing tends to be more personal and have passion and feeling behind it.
Step 5 – Find an Affiliate Program, Find Several
There are many large and small companies out there that offer an affiliate program. Meaning, if you write a review about their product and someone buys it through your website, then you can earn a percentage of the commission from that sell.
